ADDITIONAL INFO ON JOHN PAUL (JP) BARRINGER FAMILY
some of this info is from a letter by Mrs. Q.J. Scott and a quoted
source cites "Dr. Rumple's History of Rowan County, N.C". and another
cites "History of North Carolina, published in 1919 by Lewis Pub. Co.

JOHN PAUL BARRINGER from Germany 1721 - 1807
With first wife Ann Eliza Eisman from Pennsylvania JP had two children,
Catherine and John, born in Philadelphia around 1753

JOHN BARRINGER (son of John Paul and Ann)

John may have married Elizabeth Smith on Sept 22 1796 or his son , John
Jr might have been the husband of Elizabeth Smith
His children included:

County) married to Alice Foil (2nd marriage -- first marriage was to
Alice's sister). Rev. Paul and Alice had a son, Dr. G.R. Barringer,
whose children are O.A., Katie Foil, Mary C. , Lilly A. , Ruth, and
Herman. Rev. Paul was an active minister of the Reformed (cutoff) but
changed profession after becoming "afflicted with a misfortune that
deprived him of his oratorical powers." Rev. Paul got involved in the
cotton business and was elected president of the Kindley Cotton Mill ,
the first to be built at Mount Pleasant, est in 1897. Later he became
associated with Mr. J. W. Cannon of Concord in the building of teh
Tuscarora Cotton Mill at Mount Pleasant. He then organized the Barringer
Manufacturing Company at Rockwell. Later, Alice, his second wife died ,
and Rev Paul again married, this time to the former Margaret Alice
(Cruse) Kluttz.

BACK TO JOHN PAUL'S CHILDREN:
With second wife, Catherine Blackwelder JOHN PAUL BARRINGER had five
sons and four daughters which include:
General Paul Barringer
Jake Barringer
General Daniel L. Barringer

GENERAL PAUL BARRINGER 1778 - 1844
he married Elizabeth Brandon (d. 1848) "a member of another
distinguished North Carolina family, and they reared nine children, the
eldest of whom was Daniel Moreau Barringer." quotes in this section
taken an unidentified source citing pp. 73-4 of "history of North
Carolina" published in 1919.
Gen. Paul's children include:
1) Daniel Moreau b. 1806 -- Minister to Spain
"He was born at Poplar Grove, July 30, 1806, and was graduated from the
Univeristy of North Carolina in 1826, following which he studied law and
began the practice of that profession at Concord in 1828. He was elected
to the Legislature in 1829, and in 1835 was elected a member of the
convention which revised and amended the state constitution. In 1843 he
was elected to Congress from the Second Congressional District, and
reelected in 1845 and 1847. In 1849 he declined a reelection and was
then by President Taylor appointed minister to Spain, being subsequently
reappointed to this post by President Filmore.......In Allen ?Thorndike
Rice's 'Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln' he [Daniel] is referredc to as
one of the three or four most eloquent members of the House of
Representatives when Mr. Lincoln first took his seat in Congress; and it
is an interesting fact that Mr. Lincoln and Mr. Barringer subsequently
became deskmates and firm friends."
2) Margaret Barringer 1808 - 1897- married Andrew Grier in 1830
3)Jane C Barringer married M.C. Means

JAKE BARRINGER (son of John Paul and Catherine Blackwelder)
Children are probably Martin, Polly, and Caleb

GENERAL DANIEL L BARRINGER (son of John Paul and C. Blackwelder)
He married Gov Caswell's granddaughter, Miss White
He served in the Wake County House of Commons : 1813, 1819, & 1822 then
went to Tennessee where he served as Speaker of the House of
Representatives
George Barringer may be his son. According to Mrs. Q.J. Scott, George
was married four times and had several children.
George's children are listed as:
Paul
John married to Kate Myers
Daniel married to Polly Cress
Katie married to Bost
Polly married to Jim Lee and moved to Ohio
Betsy married to Peck and moved to Indiana
Leah married to John Brown
Saline married to Jacob House

LEAH BARRINGER (daughter of John Paul and C. Blackwelder)
She was married to David Holton and had a daughter Mary Barringer Holton
who married John S. Means

Also, John, Wilson, Christine, Sallie (m. Misenhimer), Henry, Polly,
Caroline, Susan (m. Jake Kress), and Alfred Barringer are listed as
descendants of John Paul but don't know through which connection. Mrs.
Q.J. Scott provides the names identifying them only as "Fifth generation
from John". I assume she's referring to John Paul since her letter is
about his descendants.
Mrs. Scott adds to other info on John Paul stating "...he moved to N.C.
and located on Dutch Buffalow Creek in Cabarrus County and named his
family mansion, 'Poplar Grove'."
