Hi List. I've been really quiet a LONG time, but school is finally out for
the summer! so I have 3 months to get as much info as possible:) Is anyone
on the list familiar with Nicholas Barringer of the early 1800's and his son
Charles? I believe Charles married into the Redwine line (I don't have my
info with me right now). Nicholas is from Rowan Co. and Charles was in
Iredell Co. during one census year and then came down to
Cabarrus/Mecklenburg Co. in the mid to late 1800s. He had a daughter named
Mary Clarissa Barringer who married 3 times...first to a Kluttz, then to my
ancestor John Bradford, and then to a Garrison and at the time of her death
she was known as Granny Garrison. All four of them (Barringer, Kluttz,
Bradford and Garrison) are buried at the Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church in
Cabarrus Co. Nicholas appeared out of nowhere basically and not mentioned
as a son of any of the prominent Barringers in that area. There is a
Charles listed in the Black Troops of Mecklenburg Co. in 1898 (too far after
my Charles would have died), but I'm thinking maybe it's possible that the
Charles listed is the son of my Charles and that Nicholas was slave granted
manumission. I know that one of the Barringer slave owners that owned tons
of slaves lost most of them (I think they ran away) and I'm wondering if
Nicholas could be from him. Any thoughts? Thanks!
