Erin,

Thank you for your offer of help.

My g,g,grandfather George Barringer was born abt. August of 1797. He died
September 16, 1867 and is buried in the Old Monongahela Cemetery at
Monongahela, PA. The caretaker's computer info states that George was born
in Bedford Co., PA. There is an 1850 PA Census which has him living with
his wife and children at Cookstown (Fayette City), Fayette Co., PA. He is
buried in Washington Co., PA. On the 1850 Census his surname us spelled
Bearinger.

I have also been told that the Barringers of Bedford Co. can be found at
Frederick, MD so I have no idea for sure from where George joined the War of
1812. Simple math proves that he was just a teen when he joined. He also
is listed with the 79th Cavalry having joined up two days after two of his
sons Sept of 1861. He ended up with a Reserve group. George was 64 in
1861.

It would be a good bet that George joined up for the 1812 War in PA. Any
help that you can give is most appreciated.

Marilyn, NE Illinois,
