Subject: [BARRINGER] George Barringer War of 1812
Date: Thu, 9 Dec 1999 01:03:43 -0600
Hello,
I have a George Barringer who is buried in Section C of the old Monongahela
Cemetery at Monongahela, Pa. His grave does not have a Veterans marker;
but, the caretaker gave me a computer printout on my g,g,grandfather so I
now know that he served in the War of 1812. He also enlisted in the 79th PA
in 1861; but, was put in a Reserve group probably because of his age.
George is listed with his family in the 1850, Cookstown (Fayette City),
Fayette Co. PA Census as George Bearinger.
Could someone on the list who is more knowledgeable re the military please
tell me where I might find a list of 1812 Vets so I can find out what
Regiment my g,g,grandfather was with? I have sent for Civil War records
from the Gov. before; but, I had much more info to send them than I have for
George. He was born in Bedford Co. Pa. and his family did live in Maryland
at one time so I have no idea where he joined.
Any help that I can get from you all is gratefully appreciated.
