Thank you so much. I believe that we have a match. I just consulted my
record of the Civil War Rolls for the 79th Penna. Infantry. Both my William
Barringer and a John Barringer, joined on September 7, 1861. I always
wondered if they were brothers. Then a George Barringer joined September 9,
1861. George was later transferred to Veterans Reserve Corps, September -
1863. I thought that he, too, might have been a brother. Do you think that
he was their father?

They all three were in Company "D". William was promoted and transferred to
the Marine Brigade, May 1, 1863. He became part of an experimental Brigade
which combined the efforts of the Cavalry and the Navy. The Brigade sailed
the Mississippi and participated in the Siege of Vicksburg. John
Barringer's name shows that he did not muster out with the 79th. There is
no mention of what happened to John. Note: William Barringer in 1870 named
his son, John W. Barringer. Could John Barringer have died in the Civil
War?

Another note: William's daughter, Sarah Ellen named three of her four sons:
John, Joseph, and William. The oldest, my father, was named Charles.

Hopefully, we can exchange info.

Marilyn

: This information is from the 1850 Census for Cockstown, Fayette Co. PA. I
am
: almost positive the Barringer's from Fayette Co. were originally in
Bedford
: Co., PA and Washington/Frederick Co., MD. I am descended from these
: Barringer's as well. My ancestor, Laurence Barringer, and at least one
son,
: Jacob moved from Bedford Co. to Fayette Co around 1820. There are scant
: records of all these Barringer's, and it has been difficult trying to
figure
: out which Barringer's went with which family, but it's almost assured that
: they are all related somehow. You'll note that your William fits in
exactly
: with an 1838 birthdate.
