Sarah Ellen Barringer and Robert Lee Jenkins were my grandparents. Sarah
later married a Paul McCormick and moved to Akron, Ohio near her sister.
William Barringer served in the Civil War joining the 79th Penna. at
Uniontown.
in 1861. There were two other Barringers who joined at the same time. I
don't know if they were related. John served in the cavalry until promoted
and later served in the Marines on two ships. He was discharged after the
Siege of Vicksburg. He was in 5 battles, 17 skirmishes and, of course, the
Siege of Vicksburg. He was discharged in 1864.
Does anyone out there recognize my information? I have been searching for a
long time. My late father, Charles B. Jenkins, often spoke of an Uncle with
the last name of Shallinburger. I don't know if this is the maiden name of
William' Barringer's mother or the maiden name of Ida Mae Landis' mother.
