Hello,
Not to get away from specifics of posting families; but, Conquest Music's
point regarding my post was well taken.
I have tried for so long to get information on my g,grandfather William
Barringer who enlisted at Uniontown, Pa. in 1861, I have the list for all of
the men who served in the Pa 79 cavalry and the list describes what happened
to the men. My g, grandfather saw 5 major battles, 17 skirmishes and the
entire Siege of Vicksburg where he then was honorably discharged in 1864.(He
was promoted around 1862 and became a Marine and served with the South West
Group on two ships.) A small man of 5'2", it is a wonder he survived.
I only mentioned that he fought for the Union hoping to find the descendants
of the other two Barringers who enlisted at the same time, hopeful they were
brothers or cousins. Did he fight some find Confederate Barringers;
unfortunately, he probably did and that is the sad history of our country.
I was born in W.Va. in 1938 and my mother use talk how in the church on
Sunday, families that once loved one another sat at opposite ends of the
church no longer speaking because of each choosing different sides. How
terrible this had to happen in our history.
On a brighter note, I still don't know a thing about the Barringer side of
my family from Penna. Help please!
Marilyn
