All,
I just recently returned to this board. Thank you so very much for your replies and help of several years ago. My aunt, Gloria Baker Ayer, sent me the following email text this weekend. While some of it reiterates what you already have, it may be of use to others. Note that she is addressing me, Alton Audie Ayer, son of Alton Abner Ayer:
"Your grandfather's name is Herbert Alton Ayer,DOB Dec. 17, 1896. I don't know where he was born, but I know he lived in Preston, MN. His father's name was Alfred Ayer, and he was originally from New Brunswick.
Herbert had three brothers and three sisters. I think this is their order of birth: Jesse. Susy, Jenny, Sam, Harold, Herbert and Verna. I don't know who they were married to, except for Sam. He was married to Eda Annonson, my mom's sister.
Alfreds wife was Caroline Yaste. I don't know her date of birth but maybe I can find out and let you know later.
Your grandmother's name was Geneva Annonson, DOB May 6, 1894. She grew up around Bemidji, MN, and had four brothers and four sisters. I think this is their birth order: Charity (Norwegian name Chesty), Theodore, Eda, Geneva (Norwegian name Gena), Hilda, Agnes, Dewey, Abner and Harrison. Harrison died when he was around five years old.
Geneva's father's name was Annon Annonson. I don't know much about him, except that he was a good fiddle player and used to play for dances. He was a photographer and worked as a lumberjack. He died at age 42 when a tree fell on him.
Geneva's mother was Nellie Halvorson. Her parents were Halvor Halvorson and Inger Aplin. They lived near Harmony, MN. Herbert and Geneva met there. Herbert worked there for Geneva's Uncle Oscar Halvorson. Herbert and Geneva were married on March 28, 1923. They had five children: Alton Abner, Twyla, Lavene, Donald and Gloria."
My mother was Hazel Elnora Jones Ayer.
I'd love to hear from any and all of you to swap information and/or lies (kidding, kidding! about the last).
Blessings,
Alton Audie Ayer
