Jeane; I have a Margaret (Peggy) Ayer in my file with a b. abt 1786. I've not run across any Ayer who emmigrated as far south as TN at that early date of 1797. There are a good number of Ayers who did,as their ancestor was Obadiah Ayer. Obadiah emmigrated to NJ from MA in 1669 and all of his descendants adopted the "s" to their surname. That line then made further inroads westward.
