Hm... Perhaps Canadian immigration papers should reveal from which
direction he came? But as I said it before it is possible that he went
to South Africa as a volunteer and adventurer and later immigrated to
Canada. There were Austrian legionnaires who fought for the French in
Indochina in 1880s and 1890s, or Emperor Maximilian in mexico in
1860s, so why not also in Boer Wars? :)
