Shirley, I know the NSW bdms includes persons born/died at sea - Marine
Births, Marine Deaths - in its registry. Maybe was the same for the other
States. Did you check these? Also, in that period less emphasis was put on
the status of British- and Aussie-born people than, say, on the status of
anyone born elsewhere. It would be natural to describe yourself as "British"
if born on a British ship in international waters, even if you grew up in
Australia. Wonder who issued him with the identity card that was sufficient
for enlisting in the RAAF, and to marry; does anyone know who issued such
cards, at what age (e.g. adulthood?), and on what basis?
