Dear Friends,
having been given a real runaround today with regard to locating teachers'
records from the 1800s, I thought I'd better outline for you here exactly
what the procedure is. This could save you a lot of time and the 8 phone
calls it took me.

Here's what you have to do:-
Sending a money order/cheque for $20 with your applicaiton, write to:
The Freedom of Information Manager,
Dept. of Education Employment and Training,
P.O. Box 4367
Melbourne, 3001.
In the application, name the teacher, file number if you have it; or date
of birth; or known schools etc. They will then retrieve the file and
photocopy it. After that, they will write back to you telling you how much
more to send for labour and copying (usually a further $20-$25). Once they
have that they'll send the file. Can you believe all this!!!!?????????
These records should be freely available and lodged at the PRO where other
similar records are.
Mind you, I got my father's and Gt Gt Grandfather's about 5 years ago and
these documents are well worth it. They outline every single school your
relative taught at, as well as the various Inspectors' Reports.
Regards
David in Ballarat
