MARSHALL, VA. / PLATTSBURGH — Joseph E. Augustine, 80, born in Pittsburgh, Pa., died Nov. 1, 2001, after a long illness at the Marshall Manor Nursing Home in Marshall, Va.

Mr. Augustine was a retiree of New York State Electric and Gas Corporation, where he was general manager of the northeast area while residing in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

He worked for NYSEG for 35 years moving to Weeki Watch, Fla., at the time of his retirement in 1984.

He held a BSEE degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology and studied at Cornell University and the University of Michigan.

During his career, Mr. Augustine served on the boards of the North Country Regional Board of National Commercial Bank and Trust Company, the Plattsburgh Rotary Club, the Plattsburgh Chamber of Commerce and the Clinton County Industrial Development Corporation.

He was also a member of the Town of AuSable Zoning Committee and the Town Planning Board, The Industrial Management Club, the NYSEG Speakers Club, and various other organizations. He was also a 50 year member of the Masons.

He was a veteran of World War II, service with the U.S. Navy.

His four children survive Mr. Augustine, Charles W. Osborn of West Winfield, N.Y., Joseph B. Augustine of Meriden, Conn., Bonnie L. Cline of Warrenton, Va., and Heidi S. Clark of Johnson City, N.Y. He has nine grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Louis Ryan, and two nieces, Beverly Hahn and Jeannie Venturella; all of the Pittsburgh, Pa., area.

He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis J. (Osborn) Augustine in 1990.

Mr. Augustine was an avid golfer and bridge player and was a life master in bridge.

He will be laid to rest in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
