Mar 26, 1920 – Local News Items
Mrs Mary Bookout, aged about 54 years, died of pneumonia at the home of her
son Harve Bookout, near Wiseman last Saturday. Her youngest son, Owen, who
had also been ill several weeks, died of pneumonia Monday.
(note: Wiseman Cemetery – Bookout, Mollie d. 1920 there is no listing for
(there is a listed for O. E. Bookout 1905-1918 is this suppose to be the
same as Owen Bookout?)
Jul 12, 1956 – Services For Mrs Powell Held Sunday
Claris Lola Sellars was born April 13, 1911 at Violet Hill, Ark., and
departed this life July 6, 1956 at the age of 45 years, 2 months 23 days.
On January 7, 1934 she was united in marriage to Cecil Powell. To this
union were born three children, two daughters and one son, one infant who
preceded her in death, John William and Doris Ann Powell, both of the home.
She leaves behind to mourn her going, her husband and two children: her
parents, Mr and Mrs John Sellars of Violet Hill, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs
Claude Bookout of Wiseman, Ark.; and Mrs Truman Powell of Wichita, Kan.; one
brother, Cleo Sellars of Violet Hill, Ark.; and a host of other relatives
She professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Baptist
Mrs Powell’s death was unexpected. She had recently undergone major
surgery and was thought to be on her way to recovery.
Funeral services were held Sunday July 8 at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church
at Violet Hill with Rev. Light of Mtn. Grove, Mo., officiating. Casket
bearers were Lex Walker, Brien Pogue, Jewell Shelton, Rubel Smith, Clifton
Bookout, and Stanley Sellars. Burial was made in Violet Hill Cemetery under
direction of the Hall Funeral Home.

A. R. Bookout passed away at a Batesville Hospital April 14, at the age of
77 Years, 9 months and 14 days. He was born at Wiseman, living there all his

Funeral services were directed by Rev. Claud Masters of Cushman and Rev.
Luther Love of Viola.
Orgel Mason and Keith Russell were in charge of the song service.
Casket bearers were Thedival Hill, Dean Bookout, Charles Hill, Granville
Todd, Goldie Langston and Claude Jones.
Burial was in the Wiseman Cemetery by the Carter Funeral Home.
