Hi to all of you. Gen's note reminded me the weekend is here isn't it.

I hope each of you are able to spend it the way you wish. Many of us will be with families and that always makes such a special day doesn't it.

Us "old folks" remember when there were no restrictions on fireworks and oh boy didn't they show up everywhere. Wasn't it a miracle more people weren't hurt with them than were. And how many of us remember always making ice cream on the 4th?:

That was always part of it when I was young. I can still see my uncles taking turns cranking and wondering how much longer it was going to take to be done. Us kids were always standing around hoping it would be soon!!

It seemed no matter how cool the weather might turn, it wasn't the 4th without the ice cream. That would have been like Christmas without a tree. I remember one 4th in the early 40's it turned so cool in the mountains in Western Oregon. But the ice cream maker still had to perform. But in the kitchen the wood range felt so nice as the ladies were cooking. When it was all over I can remember a couple of my aunts sitting there with the oven door open to stay warm as they were eating their ice cream.

All of you have a good one, and be sure to remember our Armed Forces and their families. Fly those flags and thank God we can still do so.
