Pansylea,
I've got about 35 Howard's in FTM. No stong trees. Most seem to have MO ties.
Only Baxter seperates Marion and Izard, are you sure we aren't related?
Besides, we all have family that eloped over to OK!
I'll adopt you. Don't want anyone feeling left out.
Marsha

I'm sorry I don't have a website.   I am the long lost relative of
the Arizard group because my Howard family was there long ago, from
1829 until Marion Co. was formed, and they were in Marion Co. from
1840 on!  I often feel like an orphan in the Izard group, but I love
to read all of the messages and get to know you through your
interactions!   I look forward to June's entries and to how all of
you interact as one big family!   I am proud to be the orphan of such
a wonderful group of people!

One other tip:  if any of your allied Indian family was in the Indian
Territory (now OK) at the time of the 1900 census and had tribal
connections, the census will list their "American" name on one page
and on the next the Indian name and the person's quantum blood.
Perhaps a brother or cousin  of your direct line moved to the IT by
the 1900 census and it can give you additional information.

I taught genealogical research at our local junior college for 11
years and watched my students with oral history of an Indian line
research.  Many were successful, but some were blocked because in the
late 1800s and early 1900s it wasn't considered an honor to be part
Indian--as it is now.  Many Indians had married into the Scots-Irish
frontier settlers and raised their children without knowledge of
their Indian heritage.  What a shame!

I'll try to remember where I got the Applications for Indian
Rights.   I think it may have been from National Archives because the
ancestress in question was born in 1740 (part of the Eastern
Cherokees) long before the Trail of Tears.    You might try googling
and see if you can get an address where these applications are
filed.   Also, check Ancestry.com to see if they have microfilmed
copies.    Does anyone on the Izard line know where to send for
these?     Best, Pansylea
