All,
Now Billie is embarrassing me!
I've been trying to get him to pull out any memories that he had of his adoptive father.
Billie Mother Joan Hadley and Harvey Dale 'King' Harris were married in
Enid, Garfield Co., OK 14 Feb 1953 is basically all we've got that is solid
about this man.
Billie feels that 'King' was about 4-5 years before his Mother who was born in 1928---this would put 'King' b 1923-4.
Billie knows that 'King' was in the Navy before their marriage, believes that is where the nickname comes from playing 'King Neptune' in a theatrical production as their ship passed across the equator.
'King' and Joan were for about 7-8 years before they divorced.
This is basically what Billie has been dealing with trying to find the identity and family of this man.
Somewhere tucked away Billie thought that someone told him that King had seen his Mother again later and told her that he was working as a diver in CA. Billie was never told this by his Mother so we're literally working on heresay but we did find a man Harvey Harris in the CA Death Index that could have been 'King's father.
There happens to be a young couple in Poinsett Co., AR prior to the supposed birth date of King, that could be his parents. If we think in generations and their movements this might be the route to Enid but without nothing else, everything of course is very questionable. However
the interesting part of this is that the Poinsett Co., AR Harris groups do have connection to both AL and MS which appear to match some of the possibilities. Lots, lots more questions that we have answers for but we're
still going after the little bitty tracts!
Billie has said before that it is like finding a needle in a haystack and he is right. If anyone has any enlightment or off the wall suggestions, let's hear them! New eyes and noggins might help see something we've missed.
Beth

AW, shucks maam. Yer makin' me blush.
As Beth knows I spent a pretty large part of my growing up moving around
a lot. By the time I was twelve I had been in thirteen states. We spent
a couple years in Thermopolis Wyoming. For me that was a magical place
and a great place to be a kid. I've tried to post some of my memories
from there an the site. It's kind of a work in progress. I ain't no
author and my poor ol' rememberer don't work quite as well as it used to.
One regret I have is that I never had the opportunity to spend more time
in the area of Arkansas around Hardy. My roots go pretty deep into Izard
and Sharp Counties.
Beth has really been wonderful. She has been racking this poor ol' brain
for information. She is a gem.
