Hello, Suzi!
Long time no see.
You will love this little story. A few years ago, a retiring couple moved to the area near Calico from Texas (don't remember where but near a larger city), the first Veterans Day they were in Calico, they saw and were amazed at the VFW Aux
doing the Buddy Poppy sales at the local grocery store. I told them, that was a long standing tradition in the area. The Aux set up at the place that more people came to that day and raised money to send to the Veterans Hospital patients or at least, that was where it used to go. The gentleman was amazed that they were so readily accepted and I had to say that Izard County was a pretty patriotic place, always has been, I think.
The people probably really liked that, they stayed and are really active in community efforts. It's a great area
Beth

Today is Veterans Day.  It is also my wedding anniversary.  I am proud to be the daughter of a Veteran.  and the daughter-in-law of a Veteran.  and the neice of several Veterans.  and the sister-in-law of 2 Veterans.  and the aunt of an active duty soldier and of an active duty sailor and of an active duty Marine.  and the cousin of a Marine in ROTC.  I am proud to call myself friend to countless soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines.  Most especially, I am proud to be the wife of an Air Force Veteran, who served 28 years and 28 days and who is allowed to proudly call himself an Honorary Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy [bestowed by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy].  Am I name dropping? You bet.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your service.  I love you.
