Peggy- The Finleys are doing fine, just getting a little older. We go
Tyler often to visit with our daughter who lives there. I'm also familar
with Overton. Let me know when you are coming this way and we will meet you
at your convenience.

Yes! I remember the Perry's, it seems this loss of lives and property was
commonplace with the Bushwackers. There were numerous incidents in my
family and family kin that lost their lives with encounters with the
Bushwackers in the North West Arkansas area. This continued for about 10
years following the Civil War. In my Brickey family in Batesville all four
son-in-laws were done in by the Bushwackers. John C. Gill m to Mary
Elizabeth Brickey was according to family information killed in 1867 by
these outlaws. According to the story this is when the countryside rose up
and said enough is enough and this is said to have put an end to it. One of
the son-in-laws was my ancestor Jesse William Meachum. He was killed in
1867 at Lead Hill in Marion Co. AR.
However, there are instances of men disappearing without anyone knowing what
happened to them due to encounters with the Bushwackers. This has made it
difficult for researchers.

Glad to hear from you again. Athough I'm still working on my Finley's and
allied families in Arkansas, Texas, AL, LA and elsewhere. As usual the
descendants from old Uziah "Uzza" Finley in Izard and Baxters counties are
still very elusive and many remain untraced. Hopefully one day a long lost
Finley will turn up with more information. With the loss of records the
only way to piece it together is family inputs.
