That explains the Green Chism I found. Now who would this one be? James
Chism age 11 born MO living with Elizabeth age 31 and John and I cannot
make out his surname, they are in Atchison, Atchison Co. KS 1870 census. It
looked interesting because of the ages of Elizabeth and James -- the birth
state is off, but you cannot depend on census to be correct in that. If she
was a Mary Elizabeth, then he might be a James Thomas. But, of course, it's
speculation. But looks like this Elizabeth was married first to a Chism and
then has remarried. I did a search on Chism and found them, maybe someone
can make out the surname.

I was told that John Green Chism lied about his war record to collect a
pension and it would seem this is true. In Betty Renfroe's World Connect
she says that the William Chism mentioned in the 1880 census, age 10, was
William H. Bales not Chism and she does not know what happened to Jane,
perhaps died young.

The Green Chism in the Sharp Co, AR 1870 census is Christopher Green Chism,
son of George Washington Chism.

Thanks Wilma for chiming in. My head is spinning.
There for sure could have been two J.G.
Chism/Chisom/Chisum, however I do not have a
second one that matches this person. Hope you can
help work this out. I am taking the death of his
father from the work of Betty Renfroe, and she
has done due diligence on this family.
