Child of LAYTON PINKSTON and MARGARET THRASHER is:
2.i.ETHEL OCTAVIA2 PINKSTON, b. June 10, 1883.

Generation No. 2

2. ETHEL OCTAVIA2 PINKSTON (LAYTON1) was born June 10, 1883. She married JAMES WILLIAM LINCH 1898 in Fulton County, Arkansas (Source: Date and place of marriage for James William and Ethel Octavia (Pinkston) Linch via email from Vera Reeves November 17, 2001.), son of JAMES LYNCH and MARY BOWLING. He was born December 13, 1874.

Notes for JAMES WILLIAM LINCH:
James changed the spelling of his last name from Lynch to Linch because he had a nephew who was called "Lying Jim" and he didn't want to be confused with him. He had a nickname of his own which was "Black Jim".
They moved to Texas after Mary Frances married.

When James was about ten years old, he went to live with his Uncle Smith Lynch. His mother had remarried and James didn't like his new step-father W.C. King. Smith and his wife Susan lived with James in their later years. James owned a store selling groceries, dry goods, etc. When James' oldest daughter was divorced she brought her infant and her toddler daughters and moved back home to her family, where she worked in the store for her dad. She knew Smith quite well.

While Smith and Susan lived with James, his pension was his to keep, to spend as he pleased. Their room and board were free, because James loved him and wanted to repay the kindness Smith had extended to him by welcoming him into his home to raise. After Smith died, apparently Susan didn't know she was still entitled to receive his pension (or perhaps she wasn't interested, since her needs were still being taken care of by James.) However, two of her kids came to get her, insisting she go with them back to Arkansas to live. (Supposedly she and Smith had told family members that their kids only wanted them to live in Arkansas with them for the pension check.) Against her will, she went with them, she did begin receiving pension checks again as Smith's widow. The family in Oklahoma never saw her again.

This information came to me from an email dated February 7, 1998 from Susan McKenna, descendant of James.

Children of ETHEL PINKSTON and JAMES LINCH are:
i.HOMER3 LINCH.
3.ii.MARY FRANCES LINCH.

Generation No. 3

3. MARY FRANCES3 LINCH (ETHEL OCTAVIA2 PINKSTON, LAYTON1) She married (1) JAMES ALLEN GRIFFETH. She married (2) JESSE JAMES LARGENT.

Child of MARY LINCH and JAMES GRIFFETH is:
i.FRANKIE VONDERA4 GRIFFETH, m. (1) PHILLIP NELSON; m. (2) STEVE LARGENT.
