My niece and I and several cousins have been trying for years to prove we
are part Indian but no luck yet. Everyone was reluctant to talk about it but
my mother always said that my gr-grandmother Indiana Shelton was full blood
Cherokee. She came from Wayne County Tenn. You can tell by seeing my uncles
and brothers that there is Indian blood in the family but the older
generation wouldn't talk about it and acted like they were scared to discuss
it with me. Now they are all gone and of course theres no paper trail to
prove the Indian blood but we know theres Indian in us. My brother-in-law
use to say he knew we were indian as we'd build a small fire then set on top
of it!
