Hey Don?

Jim and Wanda would surely know more than I about Polly Ware - but, my notes
show that she was the daughter of a Samuel and Sallie Ware?

And this from lovely Rosemary - formerly of the List. It was she and Lavada
that "made" me an honorary Jeffery family member (smile)!

Rosemary writes 0n 21 April 2001: "That's all we know about Mary Ware
Jeffery - except the family story of her (with the aid of a young slave
girl) - as a woman in her 70's - having to take a cart down to the creek
below her house to pick up the body of her grandson, Isaac Jeffery, who was
shot by Col Robert Livingston's men, while he was home on sick leave."

Now, the following is some older exchanges between Rosemary and Jim and
Wanda and you might find some of this of interes?

Subject: [ARIZARD-L] Samuel Ware's will - Rosemary
Hi Rosemary,
This is one of the difficulties using the will as primary documentation to
prove the parentage of Mary "Polly" Jeffery. It is possible that Polly Ware
listed in Samuel's will is not Mary "Polly" Ware Jeffery. Your question
is very valid. Polly, Frances & Nancy are all given the name Ware in the
will. If we could determine the ages of Frances & Nancy, and if they were
married, we might have a case one way or the other. We have not been able
to find a birth record for any of Samuel's children, except for Joseph b. 14
May 1972, Greenville, SC given by descendents. Mary "Polly" Ware Jeffery's
b. is given as 25 Oct 1793 SC. Marriage to Jehoiada Jeffery 12 Feb 1811
Union Co. IL. Both dates are given in the "Izard County Historian, Vol 3,
Jan, 1972." The article is on pp 3-24, and is written by Duane Huddleston.
Reference for the above dates is given as Dale Hanks, "Jehoiada Jeffery,
American Pioneer, 1790-1846, Jeffery Quarterly, Summer 1971." Union Co.IL
didn't become a Co. until 1818. In 1811 it might be Randolph Co. We
wonder why that county name was given for that date. It might be
interesting to read this "Jeffery Quarterly" if anyone has a copy. Do you
have anything that would show Samuel in the War of 1812? Land grants as a
result of War service? Any documentation about Samuel being in the "Battle
of the Cow Pens"? Any church records from S.C. listing children of Samuel
and Sally (Charles) Ware? You are right, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS!! Answers
to some of the above may help to sort out the problem. Jim and Wanda

Thanks for sending the below info on Samuel Ware's will. I wasn't convinced
that he is our Mary "Polly" Ware Jeffery's father because his will is dated
1817 and he just lists a daughter as "Polly Ware". Well, according to our
records, she and Jehoiada were married in 1811 so by then she should have
been listed as a Jeffery. What do you think? Questions? Comments, anyone?
