I am not sure when the Post Office was taken from Old Joe, but Betty Sherrill was postmistress there up to the time she left Old Joe and went up the road to become postmaster at Norfork. Betty was not at Norfork that long before she retired, and that has been within the past five years or less.

Vera,
I think it was there until sometime after 1991 because Sid's address was there.
Whenever he told me that it had burned and his box was at Norfork, I had
just assumed that the post office was still there when it burned.
In Florida, around the Tampa area a few years ago, I had some cards that
needed mailing and didn't know where the nearest post office was----then, saw
this little marker along the street with post office with an arrow--turned in and it was a
little hole in the wall convenience type store (in a little block of shops)that had the postal section
in one little corner in the side. I was really surprised to see that they were still installing postal
locations like that. Guess the population density and the location let them do it successfully because there was a
line of 4-5 people when I first walked up. Was nice to see the concept still working.
However, it didn't have the woodstove and the old men playing checkers or any of
those characteristics we remember, Vera.
Thanks so much for reminding me about those red long johns and the huge Big Smith Coveralls!
Beth
