Calico Rock Progress - Jun 26, 1953 - Mrs Betty Harris Dies Saturday at Age
of 78

Mrs Betty Harris one of Calico Rock's oldest and most highly
respected citizens died at St. John's Infirmary in Springfield, Mo.,
Saturday afternoon at 5:50 o'clock, following an illness of several weeks.

Mrs Harris had been a resident of Calico Rock for 41 years and
practically all of her life was spent in this section of Izard County. She
was 78 years of age. Born in the vicinity of Rodney, her early life was
spent there, where she was married to S. R. Harris, who preceded her in
death by several years. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since
girlhood.

Surviving are four sons, Burlin Harris of Los Angeles, Calif.,
Rector Harris of Wichita, Kansas, Elmer Harris of Grainesville, Mo., and
Warner Harris of Tonganoxie, Kansas; two brothers, Noah Thompson of Kansas
City, Kansas and Huie Thompson of Harrison, Ark.; one sister, Mrs Frankie
Bunch of Tulsa, Okla., 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Calico Rock
Church of Christ by Eld. T. H. Sherrill of Newport. Hall Funeral Service was
in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.

Pall bearers were: Spence Harris, A. H. Matthews, Ernest
Wiseman, Lowell Sexton, Max Cheney and Reece Brooks.

April 3, 1942 - Silas R. Harris Dies in Hospital Monday

Silas R. Harris, well known citizen of this place, died in a
Batesville hospital Monday, at the age of 69 years. He entered the hospital
several days ago.

Mr Harris was born and reared near Iuka and practically all
his life was spent in Izard County. He had been a resident of Calico Rock
for over thirty years. He united with the Church of Christ early in life and
remained a devout Christian throughout the remained of his life.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Berlin and Rector
Harris of Harrison, Elmer and Warner Harris of Calico Rock; four sisters,
Mrs Matt Jacobs of Calif., Mrs Halcum Cox and Miss Rilla Harris of
Claremore, Okla., and Mrs Cora Cowdrey of Wash., and a brother, Edward
Harris of Claremore, Okla.

Funeral was held from the Church of Christ, Tuesday at 3
p.m., services being conducted by Elder T. H. Sherrill of Searcy. Interment
was in Roselawn Cemetery.
