No Levi was CSA.
Since you ask there are several stories about his death.
Some say the man who killed him, said he came to look at his wife, (could
be??) but family say he was on his way home from Melbourne when he was
killed. When he didn't come home the family went looking for him and found
him in the trail with wild hogs. Family says early he caught the man miss
treating his own daughter. The local men drew straws to see who was going to
kill the killer. He was killed, buried face down, cross ways (north & south
not east and west) and outside the cemetery. OH and it's said some were a
little drunk and they danced on his grave so he would be sure to go to hail.
There has to be some truth to the story. Kin and non-kin around here have
told me stories. Also I know names but don't use them because family is
still putting flowers on the killers grave, and the man who killed the
murder also have family here. A lady came from Texas a few years ago and
looked me up. She was doing research on the man who killed the murder. She
told of a story pretty much as I've told here. She added the fact that the
man with the short end of the stick had found the murders gun leaning
against a tree and killed him with his own gun while he was plowing, and ran
off to Texas.
Someone gave a few feet of land to the cemetery and the grave is now inside
the cemetery but he is the only one buried over there. If I remember correct
there is no marker. I know that the son and gr son of Levi & Martha Woodley
are buried on the other side of the cemetery. I've been told the two back
rows of rocks in the cemetery are my families, Woodley, Payne, Boyd and
others.
Didn't know if I should post to the list or not. Maybe I will post part of
it. Sure don't want to hurt my neighbors.
I know this is more than you wanted to know.
