Calico Rock Progress - May 8, 1936 - John Marchant Dead
John Marchant, aged 52, a life long resident of this community, died
Wednesday afternoon at 4:30. He had been in failing health for several
months, having contracted lung trouble several years ago.
Mr Marchant, who was a son of Mr and Mrs R. E. Marchant, was born near
here in the Pleasant Valley vicinity, where he spent practically all his
life. He was an upright citizen, a devout Christian and was held in high
esteem by the scores who knew him as a man of high character.
Deceased is survived by his parents; two sons, Solon and Delby; two
brothers, Rufus of Buffalo, Ark and Joe of Calico Rock; three sisters, Mrs
Ed Lamb of Calico Rock, Mrs Maggie Elliott of Step Rock, Ark., and Mrs Rena
Parr of Salem, Ark.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 Thursday afternoon, conducted by Eld
D. A. Hively. Burial was at Staggs Cemetery.
Calico Rock Progress - Sep 10, 1937 - John S. Marchant
John S. Marchant, well known citizen of Guion and father of Mrs Jimmie
Pate of Calico Rock, died at his home in Guion, last Friday Sept 3.
Funeral services conducted by Rev L. C. Craig were held Sunday
afternoon, interment being at Lunenburg Cemetery. A large number of
relatives and friends attended the funeral. The burial program was under
direction of Tri-County Burial Association of Calico Rock.
Mr Marchant was born at Lunenburg Nov 6, 1876. He was married to Miss
Della Tate in 1899. To this union were born Mrs Mamie Colvin, Mrs Melda
Hodges, James Marchant, Mrs Thelma Richardson and Mrs Ruth Pate.
Calico Rock Progress - Aug 12, 1938 - Mrs Nannie Marchant Dies
Mrs Nannie Marchant, wife of Richard Marchant of Calico Rock died Monday
night, at the home of her son, Joe Marchant of this place. She was 76 years,
7 months and 12 days of age.
Mrs Marchant spent practically all her life in this vicinity, and was
known to most everyone. She had been in feeble health for several months.
She was married to Richard Marchant in 1878 to which union were born six
boys and four girls. She was a faithful member of the Baptist church. She
leaves a husband, five children, a number of grandchildren and other
relatives, besides a host of friends, to mourn her departure.
The funeral was held Tuesday, burial being at Staggs Cemetery.
Calico Rock Progress - 16 Mar 1934 - Wiley Marchant Dead
Wiley Marchant aged 57, well known citizen of this vicinity, died at
home three miles west of Calico Rock, Sunday.
He had been in falling health for a year or more, but was believed to be
improving some. He suffered a relapse one day last week and failed to rally
from the attack.
Mr Marchant was born and reared in this vicinity. He was born August 15,
1876. He was married to Miss Maggie Vails, who survives. Three sons, Tom,
Luther and Henry; three daughters, Mrs Jewel Galloway, Mrs Mabel Stowers and
Miss Mary Marchant, all of this vicinity, also survive, besides a brother
Silas, of near here; four sisters, Mrs Amanda Crane and Mrs Maggie
Snellgroves, of Viola; Mrs Annie Jeffery and Mrs Maud Foster of Calico Rock.
Mr Marchant was a member of the Missionary Baptist church. He was a
highly respected citizen and leaves a host of friends.
Burial took place at the Staggs cemetery Monday, funeral services being
conducted by Elder D. A. Hively
