Hi Folks,

As you know I've been trying to find out information on the family of George Washington Lawrence, son of William Martin Lawrence & Cynthia Franks Lawrence, & George's wife & kids. I still have not found him but have made a discovery or two & thought I would share with whoever is interested.

Our family has long said that some of our clan spelled our last name Laurence instead of Lawrence. Most seem to interchange the two spellings to suit them on that particular day. Aunt Rebecca Laurence is the only family member buried in the Lawrence Family Cemetery with that spelling on her tombstone. It seems that George may also have spelled his name that way - with the "u". I say this because I found the grave of one of his sons in Muskogee, OK at the Greenhill Cemetery.

One of George's sons was William D. Laurence. His headstone along with his wife , son, daughter-in-law and grandchild were all together at that cemetery. It showed he was born 10/16/1871 & died 11/3/1913 (reportedly of pneumonia). His wife was Lucy E. (Eva or Eleanor) Laurence 1/20/1879 - 11/20/1954 (died of senility). Lucy's funeral arrangements were made by her oldest child, George C. Laurence.

Behind these headstone's is the headstone for their son Willie (William) A. Laurence 1899-1926 and his wife Nellie Laurence 1896 - 1923. Next to their graves is the grave of "Infant Laurence" who died at birth on 11/9/1923 - the same day her mother died. This Willie, or Will as he was more commonly known, is the focus of my need for info on this family as he and his brother Albert B. Laurence/Lawrence ( Willie & Albert used both spellings of the last name and until I saw this headstone, had never seen their last name spelled with a "u") were bad men who went on a killing spree in the early 1920's. I have not been able to find this Albert B. Lawrence/Laurence. My last record of him was when he was released from prison in Texas in 1936. He seemed to have disappeared after that.

If anyone has the 1930 census available would you check to see if it has a prison population census for Texas so I can see what it has recorded for this Albert? Also, the 1920 & 1930 census for Oklahoma should show the older brother George C. Lawrence/Laurence in Muskogee, Seminole, or some other county in that area of Oklahoma.

As always, I appreciate any help I get...and give a hearty THANKS!

Rick Lawrence - Tulsa
