Calico Rock Progress - Mar 26, 1937 - Walter Thrasher Victim of Suicide
Former Citizen of This County Ends Life at Hoxie
Walter E. Thrasher, aged 54, real estate operator of Ravenden, a native of
Izard County and well known in this section, committed suicide Wednesday
afternoon at Hoxie, by drinking strychnine, and died a short time later.
According to press dispatches, he had been threatening suicide several weeks
and just before drinking the poison, invited a friend to have a bottle of
beer, saying it would be his last drink with him. He drank the poison in a
café and died there. He left a note, addressed to his wife and children. He
expressed his love and affection for them and regret at taking his own life.
No motive for the suicide was given in the note. He had lived at Ravenden
five years and had been successful in the real estate business. Surviving
are his wife; a son, Fred; two daughters, Beatrice and Bernita; two
brothers, Frank of Harrison, Ark., Charlie of Ava, Mo.; six sisters, Mrs J.
W. McClellan and Mrs J. L. Lindsey of Calico Rock, Mrs H. H. Langston of
Pineville, Mrs Burl Long of South Dakota and two others who reside in
Kentucky. Funeral services were held at Ravenden today (Friday). Interment
being in the Ravenden cemetery.
