Not to add additional confusion but I found in an old message that William Chism b. 1827 was John William Chism and that he served in the Civil War and died ca 1865 from injuries in the war. Understand that he was a tanner and that he carried a bottle of acid on his belt. It was broken during the war, the acid ate through his body and he died because of that wound.
Maybe someone can pick up the story here and put some additional facts in the pot.
