Betty,
Hi another Betty! Nice to meet you. That was Willa Rhea! She sure is a sweet lady. I plan on making a visit to her next summer. She has alot of great things to say. Thanks for Louise's number. I will call her this weekend. I think much history for my family has been misplaced by the move my grandparent's Homer and Jessie Fleming, to Wenatchee, WA. How I dreamed of Arkansas as a child. Stories of Strawberry and Violet Hill's, Oxford and Wideman. How everyone was related to everyone and how nice and decent the folk's were. I knew my grandparents just the same. Always good eats and lot's of hugs and kisses. James Shelby (Homer) Fleming was brother to Benjamin. He married Jessie Opal White. He died in 1977 a year after my mother and Jessie in Nov. 1988. I am compiling yet more of the Fleming line but have yet to find Benjamin and Homer's Fleming Grandparent's. Their father was John W. Fleming was born in 1853 in Georgia. He married Nancy Smith Brockwell. She was the sister of Ge!
orge
Brockwell of Brockwell,AR. Thank's again to Harold Blevin's who helped me with that. Below is what he sent me. I will put you in my Fleming contact list so when I get it better documented I will send you the file. Thank's for the help and I will poke around tonight to see what I can find on Sallie Hightower.

Angie,
Another Betty here from Izard Co.
Was the Rowden in Oxford, Willie Rae, that you spoke to? She was a
Fleming.
Someone else that might help you, with your Fleming's, is Lousie
Wiles. Her
Father's sister Nellie married Ben Fleming. Her number is 870- 368
-7141.
I am a cousin to Lousie. Our Mother's were sister and our father, first
cousins.
I remember Ben and Nellie from my childhood. I know they never had
children
but I don't know Ben's genealogy. Nellie was also a first cousin of my
father.
Also on you grandmother that was Cherokee. I also have a grandmother,
It
was passed down through the families, that she was Full Blood Cherokee
but I
have never been able to prove it. Her name was Sallie Hightower.
Neither
have I been able to place her with any of the Hightower families that
came
to Izard Co. with the Walkers, and Wren's.
She was in Izard Co with her husband, Andrew Walker, in the 1830
census.
All the research I have do, so far, says, there is not records for the
Cherokee's that came into Izard Co. from this period.
Also when the Indians were moved to Ok, The Shawnee, in 1829 and the
Cherokee on the Trail of Tears, in the 1938. If you claimed Indian
blood you
were sent to OK, therefore a lot of people of Indian Blood keep it
quite and
only the word of the families were past down.
Good luck on your search.
Betty BB

> I would love it. I had spoken with Mrs. Rowden of Oxford
concerning the
Stroud's and subsequently 3 other ladies in my family whom I'd never
met.
One of them expressed to me the knowledge that they had seen the family
bible just thrown in the ditch after the death of Cora Stroud. Can you
even
imagine?!?! She talked about beautiful hand written books as well just
thrown out. I can only imagine that times then were about the present
and if
the crop's were enough to get them through the winter.

Hubert
Fleming. She said something to me quite rememberable.
