Your whim seem to work so I decided to check Calif Death Records found this:
Stubblefield, Gascon Muncy
b. 5-27-1881 Ark
d. 3-24-1958 Santa Clara County
mother's maiden - Schmidt

There is a Gascon Stubblefield in 1900 Izard County census living in the
house with his brother Henry and family. Also mother Mary M. is living with
them.
