I did not know that every state had a Union regiment and am surprised that
there would be those in the far southern states. Interesting? And you say
that South Carolina was the only exception? I did think, though - that if
you were living in a southern state and you did have sympathies for the
North, that you would have to go to a northern state to enlist.
Roger Harvell sent me a site off List and it evidently is a transcription
that Betty Mc did of a war biography of a Beckham soldier from the Civil War
era. Can't say that I recall hearing of it before Roger; but glad that he
tunneled me to it.
Have you all read it and if you have; you might want to reread it. A great
mix of accounts of many CSA soldiers from the area of Izard Co.; who served
in the regiment with this Beckham.
If anyone is interested or Betty Mc sees this post; maybe she could post the
URL. I can't seem to put my hands on it.
Oh? Wilma and Peggy? That Civil War search site that you all posted? I
had never used that before - so, appreciate the heads up. Thanks so much.
