Melbourne Times
Apr 13, 1916 - W. P. Campbell Dead
Mr W. P. Campbell one of the county's best known citizens died at his home
at Franklin Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, after and illness of about two
weeks of pneumonia, while during the last stage of his illness was
complicated with other ailments.
Mr Campbell had been a citizen of Izard County all his life and was a
tireless worker for any movement that tended to improve the school, the
church or other interests of the community in which he resided. He gave
liberally and cheerfully of his means for the advancement of any project
that had for its object the betterment of either civic or moral need, he
opened both his smokehouse door and his pocket book.
Mr Campbell, like millions of other men, did not profess to be perfect. On
the contrary he admitted to his pastor, a few days before death claimed him,
that he had made mistakes, for which he was truly sorry and those who knew
him best know that his heart was white as snow in the larger part of the
essentials that compose good citizenship and right living.
Mr Campbell is a son of the late Wash Campbell, and the major portion of
his life has been spent in the southern part of the county where he was
engaged in farming and stock raising and by hard work and the exercise of
good judgment, and further aided by his good wife, amassed considerable
property and had just reach that stage in life where hard work was
unnecessary on his part when called by death.
Deceased was about 53 years old. The body was laid to rest in the Fairview
Cemetery Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Masonic order of which he had
long been a member, following funeral services by his pastor Eld. Moses
Cooper.
