Dale

Let me reread this last note from you - but, really - I couldn't even find
the Finas Halls - so, I am obviously not following directions very well, am
I? LOL

Trying to find Thomas Smith, Barren Creek Township, Baxter Co., Arkansas,
born April 1866 MO, household #114/114 .

Will you try it and see?

mean they're all indexed yet. The states currently indexed for 1900 are AZ,
CA, FL, HI, IN, KS, MD, NY, OH, PA, TX, UT, WA, and WI. If you're doing
searches for anyone in another state for 1900 you're not going to find him
in the index.

> Did you find the "Finas Hall" image? I was able to go right to that one
by browsing 1900 --> Arkansas --> Izard Co. --> Bryan Twp. I knew from what
you'd already posted that they were household #13. When you "browse" the
first image in the locale automatically comes up. You'll see an empty box
at the top of the page labeled "Go to image ___ of 'x'" where "x" will
indicate the number of pages (actually "images" since one page of the census
is actually often really two pages). I figured household #13 would be
pretty close to the beginning, so I guessed it would be on image 2. It was.
Even if you didn't have the household number in this case you'd have to
browse no more than eight pages since that's how many pages Bryan Twp.
covered. A lot of places took up a lot more pages than that, so unless you
have a faster computer than mine it can take a while to search larger areas.
(I know; I've done it.)

can still eventually pinpoint the right page by browsing. Note the page
number on the first image that comes up. Usually (but not always) you can
subtract that page number from the one you're looking for, double the
resulting difference, and go to that image number (by entering that number
in the "Go to image ___ of 'x'" box). You'll see how close you came when
the page number for the new image appears. Sometimes you'll have to go up
or down another image or two, but I've found this formula will usually get
you in the ballpark.
