The only thing I can think of is the fact that we know we can't count on the
census to be correct.

It would seem William Franklin Shipman died in OK. I found a William F.
Shipman about the right age in Carroll County, AR 1920 with 3-4 kids and no
wife. ??????????
Since it's not one of my lines, I give up unless someone comes up with
something they want me to check.
