Calico Rock Progress - Sep 12, 1919
The messenger of death made a sad visit to our house Aug 22, 1919 and took
our dear boy, J. B. Staggs, who was born Oct 30, 1857. It was hard to give
him up; so hard to fold his hands and close his bright eyes forever from us,
but we know he is a bright shinning angel with his blessed Redeemer now. He
leaves a wife, five children, an aged mother, two sisters, three brothers
and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss, which was John's
eternal gain. He had been a sufferer for many years, borne his afflictions
with patience. He was confined to his bed weeks before he was relieved of
his pain, but he murmured not and was humble and submissive to his Master.
He was a Christian, having professed religion when he was about 12 years old
and was a member of the Methodist Church. He was always a good, honest,
truthful man and made friends wherever he went. It was not possible for his
children to be with him when he died, but he told us to tell them he was
going home. His wife, son and his two daughters are in Texas. Burial took
place at Trimble Campground Cemetery, services being conducted by Rev.
Johnson. So we will not grieve any more than we can help, but will hope for
a better day, when we can meet him in heaven. ---------- His Mother and
Sister
