Contact the vendor, ask if you can disable it and why they included it in
their program, and tell them your feelings about it.

Subject: [ARIZARD-L] family tree program spy file
I recently found an unfamiliar text file on my computer off my c prompt
called AQUEDUCT.TXT. I traced it back to my family tree program which I
recently upgraded. Within the family tree program was also an AQUEDUCT.DLL
file . I am assuming that the aqueduct.dll file is the one generating the
text file of the same name. This text file had information about my
computer system and was keeping a running tab on my usage 'sessions' with my
family tree program and the data CDs that I use along with it making this a
little spy program. From what the heading said that was put at the
beginning of each one of my sessions, this information was being sent back
to the ' Vendor ' so they could gather info and statistical info which I
presume was the family tree program outfit.
I deleted the aqueduct.txt file, but it kept coming back. I tried deleting
the aqueduct.dll file to get at the source, but the program would not work
without it. I did delete two winsock files from the program, but I don't
know if that is preventing information from being sent back to the vendor or
not and I don't know if deleting these files will prevent connecting to
their web site directly through their program or not if I should want to do
that at some point. I got an email saying that the earlier versions of this
family tree program were no longer being supported and suppose this little
file addition is why,, they want everybody to have it. Does anyone have any
ideas how to disable this little spy thing? Gail
