Subject: [ARIZARD-L] AR MO State maps FROM 1917
Hey Izard-Listers...Have I got a "goodie" for ya'all.
Recently uncovered an old copy of (front cover reads)...
"The New Encyclopedic Atlas & Gazetteer of the World...
containing an entirely new series of colored maps, an index Gazetteer of
the world, a physical and commercial analysis of the United States and
Canada & up to date information on Alaska and America's Insular Possessions.
1917 Edition P. F. Collier & Sons - Publishers.
THAT'S 1917!
I have scanned the State Maps (11"x12") for Arkansas and Missouri and
made JPEGs. These maps show the counties and towns quite nicely. Put the 2
together and you have the Ozarks as our ancestors knew it at the end of
World War I, 1917. An excellent resource in understanding all the
State-line "back and forths" most of the families seem to practise.
Shows the locations for the following Izard towns...Iuka, Oxford, Day,
Wideman, Franklin, Myron, Calico Rock, Melbourne, Battles, Mt. Olive,
Adler, Barren Fork, and Gion.
All the other counties show a similar amount of towns. Here's your chance
to know "Wherefore you Speak".
I will share with those list-members who "PRIVATELY, off-list" send me
their private e-mail address (as we can't post attachments to the list and
I don't know the legality of posting them to a web-page).
Also don't want to plug-up the list archives with all of ya'alls e-mail
addies.
I will send each JPEG as an Attachment to an email. It will take a few
days (to accumulate a reply list) so be patient. I will later consider
inquiries as to other states. I used Windows XP paint to make the files.
Enjoy... Mike C.
