hey bernie:
i descend from William R. LASATER of Lawrence
Co., AR. He was b. 1832 in TN, and killed in the
war in 1861. His son, James Elias LASATER, was
raised by a Dr. Newton RECTOR of Smithville, AR.
James Elias m. Frances Elizabeth SMITH (she was
supposedly b. in Cabool, MO--father Charley SMITH
per her death cert.) She was, however, staying
with her brother, John SMITH, in Smithville, when
she met and m. my ggrandfather James Elias
LASATER. They remained in the area and raised a
family of 12 little LASATERs.

Confused now?? Anyway, Frances Elizabeth SMITH
is my biggest brick wall--her mother is "unk" on
death cert., and know nothing about "Charley".

As for the LASATER/LASSITER: I have been told
that at some point there was a family
disagreement which resulted in the different
spellings (possibly civil war loyalties??). "My"
line is correctly spelled LASATER, even tho in
sone census records, court documents, etc., I
have seen his name spelled every way
imaginable..(LASSITER, LASITER, LACETER, etc.)
Sooooo....i try and track down any of these i run
across....

I know you do SMITHs too, so you fit right in
here (ha). Can't stand to think that Frances
Elizabeth (possibly) didn't know her mother!
