Hi Vera
I was wondering about the marriage date of Dollie Smith's to Conrad Rust.
That part of the census didn't come through, so I appreciate your thinking
to tell me. Now, that I know that Rust probably died in Tulsa Co., then I
am going to call Rosehill where Sherman and Nancy, Russ Orvis, Archie Smith,
etc is buried to see if he might have been buried there.
Archie, Sherman's son died in 1938 and Conrad in 1935, so it might be worth
a shot.
Seems that I recall having checked the Sand Springs Cemetery and there was
no Conrad Rust there. Quite frankly, I was surprised that he wasn't at
Memorial Park in Sand Springs. There is another older cemetery there in
Tulsa at 9th St. and Peoria and I can't think of the name of it - but, if
he's not in Sand Springs and not in Rosehill, then he might be at the one on
Peoria. Wish I could think of the name of it.
Any Tulsans reading this post? Cemetery there at 9th and Peoria?
Of course, if he was a Catholic, he could be at the cemetery at 91st and
Harvard, where an old friend of mine is buried. Goodness, now I can't think
of that one either. Bad night for the use of brain cells.
And
This William "Burhl" Smith is one of Lewis Smith and Ethel Callaway's sons.
He was one of the decorated WW II veterans. This man earned FIVE Bronze
Stars and was at Omaha Beach. Bob Hudson says that he died in Houston, so
this must be him. His nickname following the War was "Sarge" I was told.
He was married to a Marjorie Evans, but am not sure if she was from Arkansas
or not.
Bob said that Sarge and Peachy, another brother worked on the dams (?) and
after the work was gone there, moved on. A third brother named Frog owned a
cleaners there in Mountain Home at one time (circa 1946). He moved on to
OKC and upon the death of his wife; returned to Mountain Home, where he died
in 1989. Seems he grew and sold watermelons there in the vicinity.
