Vera,
Thanks for reminding me of Arson & Johnie. I was very young when they were around our house. Arson kept horses at our field and later on my grandparents rented his house for about a year.
Once when I was around 10, Arson was talking about buying a car. I asked him if he was going to buy it and he said, " Of course not. It don't have air conditioning and I wouldn't hardly buy a wheelbarrow what didn't have air conditioning!"
I guess I'll never forget him. He managed the last fruit packing shed in Armona up until it was torn down. When they were selling off the crates and stuff inside, my brother and I were to be there for people picking up the stuff they bought. We made mazes out of the crates at first and spent hours having friends wander through them. Then, as there weren't enough to do that we made sure to have them ready to go.
Remind me some time and I'll tell you the story of Arson breaking his arm by getting thrown by his horse named Buck.
