Hi Vera
I thought this was an interesting obituary post, so went hunting through all
my "stuff" and found her:
Ellen G. "Allie" Lackey b: July 13, 1837 in Tennessee d: January 09,
1930 Burial: Galatia Cemetery-Baxter Co., Arkansas
My records show that she was the daughter of Robert Waid Lackey (b1817) and
Nancy B. Welch (b1817). I suppose from the looks of it, she never married.
I note in the Whitfield's expression of thanks excerpt that they refer to
her as Alice. Hmmm......
The Rev. Whitfield that Allie Lackey was living with at the time of her
death, was the son of Margaret Catherine "Peggy" Langston (b1842) and Allen
Whitfield (b1823)......so, I was curious as to what the Lackey connection
was. Never found it, though. The Whitfields may have just been a generous
couple that actually lived their Christian values and teachings and was
taking in an elderly woman with no family and in need of a home in her
waning years.
Anyone know if there is a connection to Allie Lackey to Young Whitfield?
Maybe through the Herrons or Wolfs? Langstons, perhaps?
Allen Whitfield's wife; Peggy Langston had a sister that evidently died in
childbirth with her first child and we have never come across any records on
her. Wonder if she married a Lackey? Her name was Phoebe and she was born
in 1840 and if I recall, can not be found in the 1860 census. Could be a
silly long shot, but hey........it's happened before.
Ya never know,
