Good Morning, Bernie.
In looking at old notes on this man, I found that some discussion occured
before on this family:
==================================================================
William and Rebecca Walker Denton came to this county from Marion County
after the Civil War and settled in Gassville. They had come to Marion County
from Bradley County, Tennessee, accompanied by Mr. Denton's father, B.F.
Denton, a native of Georgia.
William was with Col. Price during the War Between the States. He was a
Baptist Minister and also ran a mercantile establishment on George's Creek.
He died at Gassville in 1905 and Mrs. Denton died in 1906. They were the
parents of 10 children: DR. B.F. Denton; S.E. Denton, prominent attorney at
Gassville; Lee, a contractor at Gassville; Judson; Abraham; Nancy (Mrs. D.H.
Poynter); Sarah (Mrs. Adam Gibson); Elizabeth (Mrs. V.B. Tate); Emma (mrs.
L.E. Hopper);and Miranda. They were members of the Baptist Church. William
and S.E. were also Masons. S.E. Denton, in the mercantile business at
Gassville, was admitted to the bar in 1941 and was for many years Justice of
the Peace of Whitevile Township, as well as serving as school director and
road overseer. He was married to Miss Eldora Wilkie native of George* in
1882.
Notice that there's about a 10 year difference in his death
date. Interesting, since they say his wife died the following year. What
do you think?
