One of my boys tried the throwing himself on the floor, crying and
screaming, kicking and thrashing about...really "pitching" a fit
thing...What cured it was me and his mother just standing there...laughing
and pointing at him, calling onlookers over to see the little boy throw a
fit..telling them if they wanted to laugh, they could...and some did. The
boy didn't like it...and quit rather quickly...he didn't get that many
laughs (HAHA). He pouted for most of the evening...there was an unforseen
effect from the treatment...He really got riled up when somebody laughed at
him after that. AND there were no further "fits". the other 2 boys were
easily controled with noggin-thumping (you place the tip of the middle
finger just in front of the thumb-knuckle...you exert alot of energy tried
to straighten the middle-finger while at the same time holding back with
the thumb; when released immediately over the backside of the offender's
skull; the fingernail can strike hard enough to bring tears to the eyes of
the thumper as well as the thumpee...that's how you could tell if you were
being effective. My boys still swear today that I can thump harder than
anybody they know. I remember my 5th grade teacher was an ear-flicker and
ear-puller She yanked me out of my seat, just by my ear, one time...must
have been something someone else had done...I was such a GOOD boy...her
ear-flicks (same as thumping but applied to the lower tip of the earlobe,)
always from behind...talk about tears to the eyes. There was this nun I had
for a teacher in summer Bible School...(it was for us Catholic boys who
went to public school, to keep up with the religious teachings) she used
the wooden ruler...the one with the metal straight-edge...you had to hold
your hands side-by-side, out in front of you, palms down...she would whack
you across the knuckles with the metal edge...and it was never a light
stroke...most often drew blood. Once was enough for most of us...Everyone
can be very nice and polite, and follow the rules...to the letter...with
the "right" motivation.
