Back in the early 1960's, Jeff and Nora Copeland who lived on Court Street
which is east of the Courthouse, had a bunch of peacocks. Sometime during
each day, these peacocks would make their way to town. That was a sight to
see. And then in the early 1970's, we would have a cattle drive twice each
year. Carroll Fort who lived on the Jumbo Road, west of Melbourne, would
drive his cattle thru town in the spring,, to East Melbourne (where I live)
and put the cattle on his farm out there. Then in the fall, he would drive
them back to his farm on the Jumbo road. My two sons, David & Doyle, got to
ride their shetland ponies once and helped with this.
