I believe the Mary Hayes shown in the household of Ambrose Jeffery in the
1870 census would have been his mother-in-law (India's mother).

Martha Ann 12 Ar: Francis 10 Ar: Matilda 8 Ar: William 3 Ar. In
Household of Ambrose Jeffres is Mary Hayes 50 Ar. In household of Emily
Gipson (Gypson) is Joseph S. Hays 25 Tn.
