Hello Regina;
Jot-Em-Down refers to a the practice of buying on credit. You establish
credit with the business owner with an agreement usually verbal to pay your
charges at a pre-determined time. In lots of cases that would be in the fall
of the year when crops were gathered. In the meantime, purchases were made
and wrote down (jot down) in your book. The practice has not ceased,
today we call it Credit Cards.

All my life I've heard my folks (my grandparents, my mom, and one uncle)
say things about the "Jot-em-down Store". Tell me, was there really such a
place???
