Here is more info on on Elijah Melton, Sr, he was here in North
Alabama in 1850. From the 1850 census of Madison County AL

So, it looks like they came to AL from TN around 1838 or 1839.
That would be no problem since Madison County borders TN on
the north, so they could have just moved over the state line.
I live in Huntsville, which is the county seat of Madison County.
And by coincidence, Huntsville AR is the county seat of Madison
