Hi List,

I'm right "up front" in admitting I am lacking in knowledge of the Civil
War! When I was in school the Civil War seemed so "far" in the background
that I had no interest. However, now that I am involved in searching for my
families I realize that no matter how long ago it happened my family was
affected by it. It was a "trying" time for all of them and the war was
responsible for the migration of families from one state to the next!

My mother said that my g-grandfather fought for the "Confederacy" and that
the subject was "hush hush" in the family. His uniform hung in my
grandmother's closet for year but that NO ONE would talk about his part in
the war. Were they talking about the Confederate States of America....the
CSA?

I stumbled on to a CSA stamp collectors web site and learned that stamps
from this association are
quite valuable and that not ALL states subscribed to the CSA!

Would someone who is knowledgable regarding the Civil War explain to me what
the CSA actually
meant! You know....like Civil War For Dummies! <g>
